John Bukowiec Jr. was killed in a car crash in Howell in July
John R. Bukowiec Jr. was 18, with his whole life right in front of him. A defensive back for the Howell High School football Rebels, Bukowiec had graduated in June and was planning to attend Montclair State University, where he'd continue his studies and keep on playing football and lacrosse.
All those plans and dreams ended in late July, in the split-second it took for the driver of the car Bukowiec was riding in to lose control. The car slammed into a house at the corner of Maxim-Southard Road and Alexander Avenue. Bukowiec, who was riding in the front passenger seat, was killed in the crash, which happened less than five miles from his house.
The driver of the car and another passenger were injured.
Now "Johnny Buk's" family and friends have planned a benefit concert for Nov. 21 at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, to raise money for a scholarship fund in memory of a young man known for his athletic prowess, sense of humor and ready smile.
Status Green, Matt O'Ree, Predator Dub Assassins and Sibling Rivalry will perform. There will be a 50/50 raffle and a gift auction and food from The Windmill will be available.
